Strategic Projects in Uganda
DREAMS
Delivering Resilient Enterprises and Market Systems (DREAMS) is an award-winning model that combines Village Enterprise’s poverty graduation program with Mercy Corps’ expertise in market systems development to better equip Africa’s most vulnerable populations, including refugees, to get out of extreme poverty. DREAMS first launched as a pilot in the Bidi Bidi Refugee Settlement in northern Uganda in 2018. It has since scaled within Bidi Bidi and also to Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement. Because of DREAMS’ success in Uganda, the model has also expanded to Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania.

PARKS Project
The Poverty Alleviation and Removal of Kibale Snares (PARKS) project was launched in 2021 with two goals: reduce extreme poverty in Kibale National Park and protect one of the largest remaining populations of endangered East African chimpanzees. Funded by the Arcus Foundation, the project equips households living in extreme poverty with the resources to start eco-friendly small businesses, eliminating the need to engage in poaching or trading in bushmeat to survive. In addition, the Ngogo Chimpanzee Project is removing hunting snares through the PARKS project and monitors for illegal logging throughout this vital ecosystem.
